Anxiety is the root cause of many sexual problems. Hypnotherapy is a very effective and gentle and way of dealing with anxiety, stress and fear. For this reason it is particularly helpful in treating anything of a sexual nature that is causing you anxiety. These are some of the most common conditions we can help with at Healing Well Hypnotherapy:

Impotence, or erectile dysfunction, is the term used to define the inability to sustain or in some cases achieve an erection that is hard enough to complete sexual intercourse. It is quite a common problem, affecting around 2.3 million men in the UK.

Yet very often men do not seek help. Either they are too embarrassed to talk about it, even to those closest to them, or they are unaware that help is available. Apart from the physical reasons for erectile dysfunction, the other main causes are tiredness, stress, guilt, fear and performance anxiety.

Premature ejaculation
A simple definition of premature ejcculation is that you are coming too quickly and you climax before you want to, or that you are unable to control when you do. If this describes you then you are suffering from premature ejaculation (often called PE). This is a very common problem – according to one American study it affects 29% of men. It is the most common sexual problem in men below the age of 40. PE can lead to:

• Relationship problems
• Loss of libido
• Avoiding sex completely
• Fear of being humiliated
• Depression

Most men will from time to time be unable to control when they climax. However, if it is happening more than 50% of the time then it becomes a problem. Whatever the cause, if is worrying you and your relationships, it’s worth seeking help for.

Vaginismus occurs when the vagina goes into spasm, causing it to tighten. The woman is unable to relax. This causes pain during intercourse, medical examinations, childbirth, or even inserting a tampon. Because the primary causes of vaginismus are psychological, hypnotherapy is particularly helpful in the treatment of vaginismus.

Low libido (lack of sex drive)
Not wanting to have sex is more of a problem than most people are prepared to admit. Most couples are often so busy that they neglect each other, and as a consequence their sex life suffers. Lack of interest in sex, also known as inhibited sexual desire (ISD) is commonly quoted as the main reason for loss of intimacy within a relationship.

Even if your relationship is intimate, healthy people do from time to time experience a temporary decline in their desire for sex, or their interest in sex. This can be for physical reasons but is more often as a result of psychological reasons such as depression, anxiety, stress and low self-esteem.
